NATURAL FOODS AND TREATS
One of the foundations of good pet care is to offer quality natural foods and treats. These foods are typically a good choice as they don’t include chemical preservatives and they include higher grade ingredients that assist in keeping a pet healthy.
Just as good nutrition typically results in healthy people, the same is true for pets. Additionally, some medical issues can be helped via a proper diet. Allergies being particularly common, but also issues such as hairballs, obesity, and urinary tract infections can be assisted through special nutrition.

PET CARRIERS AND SAFE TRAVEL
Choosing a proper pet carrier depends on you, your pet, and the intended use. Needing a carrier for airline travel requires the most consideration. The first step is contacting your airline. There are size requirements particularly if you wish to bring your pet on board with you. While certain carriers generally fit airline requirements it is safest to contact the airline as their requirements can differ from the norm. If your pet is traveling in cargo the appropriate size is particularly important for the safety of your pet. Your pet should be able to stand up and turn around in the carrier, but not have extra room as sliding around could result in harm. Also pets need to be alert if traveling in cargo so that they are able to protect themselves if turbulence is rough. Water and appropriate identification is also a must in airline travel. For car and other travel the requirements aren’t quite as strict. Size is still important to keep excessive slipping and sliding at a minimum. Also, being able to secure the carrier, often with a seatbelt, is good safety. However, there are a range of carriers that fit these needs. Soft sided carriers are popular for those who like a carrier to be a little lighter and easier to store. Often they carry easier as they are bag like, and for some smaller pets they can be a great choice. Knowing your pet’s reaction to a carrier can be helpful. Pets that fight going in or being in a carrier may be better served by hard carriers with special access doors. For instance, many cats, can put up quite a fight going into a carrier. A top loading carrier can be helpful; also a hard carrier will withstand angry claws better and can be easier to load. Small dogs likely have the most options as there are backpacks, front pouches and a full range of soft and hard sided carriers that fit small dogs that enjoy traveling with their owner. Your pet and situation will give you a good clue as to what carrier will work best for you.
