What Is A Hot Spot?
A hot spot is the nickname given to a condition called pyotraumatic dermatitis. A hot spot consists of a bacterial infection (usually staphylococcus intermedius) that develops and rapidly spreads in the skin. A hot spot will be warm to the touch, painful to your dog and will emit pus and smell badly. Hair will usually fall out from the infected area. Because this condition is so painful and irritating the dog will usually bite and scratch the area further spreading the infection. Treatment should be started as soon as possible to prevent the infection from becoming systemic.

Dogs often bite or lick infected areas. In many cases, such as hot spots and lick granuloma, the licking and chewing is detrimental and prevents healing or spreads the infection.     My 5 year-old golden retriever had his first hot spot recently, and Dr. Dog skin care was the only thing that stopped him from itching. It also helped the hot spot to heal faster than any of the medication and sprays given to us by the vet. Since then, I've also used it on ear irriations (edge of outer ear only--not inside!) and for his footpads when they're irritated by allergies. I'm now online to order another bottle!     This Doctor Dog skin Care for Dogs is the best! I have tried many items for my Golden Retreiver which he had itching, scabs created from the itching and dy skin areas. Once I put this on him, he was so calm and relaxed and stopped itching and it takes the scab away right away. Apply it for a few days after and the spot is all cleared up. I would like to know if you could find a way to to make this product in a spray for his whole coat. The first part of Spring and Fall he gets affected all over and to use this cream on a 115lb dog even though you only need alittle bit, it gets low quick. See what you can do. Otherwise anyone who is debating on whether to try this product or not, do not hesitate - it really does work! Thank you for the skin care.

    The Skin Care for Dogs works on my dog. In just a matter of a few weeks, this gentle but effective lotion did everything it says it does: provides antiseptic healing, discourages scratching, and provides a natural substrate for skin and hair rejuvenation. And, it does so at a fraction of the cost of most veterinarian formulas. I was also pleased with the way the product worked with our dog's skin. It "blended in" well, with gentle massage, and "wore" well, so her coat didn't look as if she'd had a playdate with a grease vat. We actually do not have much of a flea problem here, but ticks are a regular nuisance. I found that the tick bites and resultant irritation were causing problems for our dog.     I cannot say enough about this product. We have a cockapoo who came to us from the animal shelter with a developing hot spot. We took her to the vet and got the traditional treatment and the poor thing wore a elizabethan collar for over a month. She was going through one collar per week!
